Eric Clapton Taps Tom Petty, Mark Knopfler, Other Stars for JJ Cale Tribute Album

Bushbranch Records/Surfdog RecordsEric Clapton has called on a variety of famous musicians, including Tom Petty and Mark Knopfler, to help him salute the music of influential singer/songwriter/guitarist JJ Cale with a tribute album that’s due out July 29. Credited to Eric Clapton & Friends, The Breeze: An Appreciation of JJ Cale features renditions of 16 compositions by the Oklahoma-born artist, who died in July 2013 at the age of 74.

Other stars who appear on the album include Willie Nelson, John Mayer and veteran country songwriter Don White, who all are featured singing lead and duetting with Clapton …read more

Founding Atlanta Rhythm Section Bassist Paul Goddard Dead at 68

Paul Goddard, second from right (Skyline Music)Paul Goddard, the founding bass player for the Atlanta Rhythm Section, died Wednesday “after a brief, sudden illness,” according to the band. He was 68.

Goddard was a member of the Southern pop-rock group from its formation in 1971 through the mid ’80s, when he decided to retire from touring. Paul rejoined the Atlanta Rhythm Section in 2011 and continued playing with the band until his passing.

The group scored several top 40 hits during the 1970s and early ’80s, but is probably best known for the singles …read more

Santana Releases Video for “Saideira” from Upcoming Spanish-Language Album “Corazon”

RCA/Sony Latin IberiaSantana‘s first Spanish-language album, Corazon, is due out next week, but on Tuesday the band premiered the first official music video from the album, for a song called “Saideira.”

The clip, which features guest singer Samual Rosa of the Brazilian rock band Skank, also includes, unsurprisingly, some ripping guitar work from Carlos Santana.

As previously reported, Corazon features a variety of guest stars, including Gloria Estefan, R&B singer Miguel, award-winning Colombian rockers Juanes and Carlos’ son Salvando Santana.
