“Bryce cut through the hundreds of demos that come across my desk with a talent that hit me between the eyes.” Stephen Wrench – President of Musik and Film Label.
“The day will come when Australians will claim he’s one of theirs, that’s how good Kiwi songwriter Bryce Wastney is.” – Mike Alexander – Sunday Star-Times
Born in the sunny coastal town of Nelson, New Zealand but now a well-travelled singer/songwriter, Bryce initially pursued a career as a trade certified boat builder before toxic poisoning from the fibreglass and paint fumes forced him to re-train. Luckily it also led to a newfound love for the acoustic guitar.
In 2010 Bryce released his debut independent album “A Perfect Day for Travel”. The album gained impressive industry reviews with six songs off the album featuring alongside songs from the iconic Cat Stevens in the multi-award winning New Zealand feature film “Last Paradise”.
Bryce moved to Melbourne in 2011 and worked in the city as a musician, establishing his reputation on the indie circuit.
In 2012 he released his much-anticipated second album “Hope Mountain”, recorded in his hometown. Bryce’s latest songs traverse the folk/country genres.
In May 2013 Bryce released “Dead Man Walking” – the first recording to come from his record deal with ‘Musik and Film’. The single reached #2 on the New Zealand iTunes country charts and led to a guitar endorsement from Martin guitars and an appearance on New Zealand national television show “Seven Sharp”.
In late August 2013 Bryce released “You Got Me” to kick off his national New Zealand tour with the iconic internationally-renowned singer-songwriter Paul Ubana Jones and will end the year with an Australian tour.
President of Musik and Film, Stephen Wrench said that the label has high hopes for Bryce’s new track based on the success of “Dead Man Walking”. “We’d love to see “You Got Me” go all the way and get to number one. It’s got all the ingredients of a hit – a catchy hook, an inspiring message and great production.”
