Feral Ghost

London based rock/pop band who formed in early 2012 and wasput together by lead singer/songwriter and guitarist Danny Warwick, who’s the younger brother of Sarah Washington who had a number of hits in the UK in the mid 90’s. Paul Castleman on drums, Andrea Marin on lead guitar, Marino Donati on bass and Chloe Hunter, backing vocals and percussion, make up the rest of Feral Ghost.

“It took about a year to find the musicians I felt happy with” recalls Danny, “it takes a lot of commitment to be in a band and lots of time spent together in small dingy rehearsal rooms so the most important thing is you all need to get on with each other and fortunately we all do”.

“It took about a year to find the musicians I felt happy with” recalls Danny, “it takes a lot of commitment to be in a band and lots of time spent together in small dingy rehearsal rooms so the most important thing is you all need to get on with each other and fortunately we all do”.

The band members are varied in both age and nationality and this makes them quite unique in a time when so many bands are manufactured by television moguls, record labels and industry professionals. “putting the band together was an organic process and certainly not by design” says Danny. It was important to join forces with people who’d already put the time in and learnt their craft. I was lucky to get Andrea on lead guitar as he was originally in a another band and toured for a time supporting Stereophonics and Paul is a talented drummer working with many established artists. Before joining Feral Ghost Chloe supported The Blockheads, Ian Dury’s band, and also worked with Mark Morriss from The Bluetones. “Her voice compliments mine well and sometimes we can’t tell the difference from my BV’s to hers so our voices blend well together and can be quite subtle and tender when required”. Marino was playing bass for Nicollete Street before joining Feral Ghost.

When asked how they got their name he says “ha well that’s a remarkable story in itself. About a year after moving into a 1960’s tower block in London I set about writing a solo album ‘Dangerous Times’ which is full of heart felt confessional type songs that most songwriters seem to feel the need to share with an audience. Anyway it was an emotional process and then things started to happen in a ‘poltergeist’ kind of way – with objects physically moving on their own – sometimes in front of friends and visitors. It wasn’t aggressive so I didn’t really mind until it started turning on the TV, radio and computer on in the middle of the night as that got a bit annoying. A few years later a psychic medium told me I’d been visited by a ‘non resident ghost’ that was attracted to the songs I was writing. Whether that’s true or not I thought it was a nice idea and inspired me to come up with the name Feral Ghost”.

The band have been working tirelessly over the past 12 months building up their fanbase, polishing their live sound and also in the studio recording their self-produced debut album called ‘A Gathering Storm’. “We kept ourselves to ourselves during the production of the album” says Danny “which meant we had little or no influence coming in from anywhere else so the finished product really is true to our natural sound” The band recently filmed a video around central London to the first single off the album ‘Secret Eyes’. Danny says “the UK has an obsession with cctv cameras with an average of eighty percent of a persons day being caught on camera and it makes you wonder if there’s a sinister side to this or at the very least it’s a bit voyeuristic” He says ”I think I have a love-hate relationship with this city and often fantasize about getting out to somwhere more remote and that feeling definately comes across in the lyrics of the song.

Feral Ghost’s debut album “A Gathering Storm” contains ten meticulously crafted stadium size songs bursting with catchy hooks, strong melodies and a few great guitar solos and with a second album of great songs already written be sure to stay tuned during 2014
