(Green Bay, WI) – Hard rocking Joan Jett and the Blackhearts will headline an outdoor concert on Saturday, September 13 as the 2014 football season gets set to return to Green Bay. The night before the Packers meet the New York Jets four blocks up the street, the group will take the stage at Burkel’s One Block Over sports bar and grill.
Joan Jett and the Blackhearts have had eight platinum and gold albums along with nine Top 40 singles, including their #1 hit “I Love Rock ‘n’ Roll” that topped the charts for seven weeks in 1981. Their 1988 hit “I Hate Myself for Loving You” was reworked in 2006 into “Waiting All Day for Sunday Night,” the theme music for Sunday Night football broadcasts, performed last season by Carrie Underwood. Their 10th album, Unvarnished, was released last September and reached number 15 on the Rock Albums chart and number 5 on the Independent Albums chart. The group has appeared this year on the Late Show with David Letterman, the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, and the Queen Latifah Show.

A life-long Packer fan, Jett is listed in the top 100 greatest guitarists by Rolling Stone magazine, one of only two women on the list, and received the first Alternative Press Icon Award in July for her years as an ambassador of rock music. She was selected by Nirvana to play guitar and handle lead vocals for part of its performance during the group’s induction into the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame this year.
Beside her long-running, hard driving rock ‘n’ roll career, Jett heads her own independent record label, Blackheart Records, and has an acting career that includes 1987’s Light of Day in which she co-starred with Michael J. Fox as a brother-sister rock band duo. She has also appeared in other movie and TV rolls, including Law and Order, and co-starred in the Tony-nominated Broadway version of The Rocky Horror Show.
Directions Burkel’s One Block Over is located a half-mile from Lambeau Field and within walking distance of hotels, parking, and shops around the stadium. It is located at 1007 Tony Canadeo Run just east of Holmgren Way between Lombardi Avenue and Mike McCarthy Way.
