Since her arrival in Sweden in 2001 LaGaylia has mesmerized audiences through unforgettable live concerts and Tv appearances. Three words capture her artistry: Soul, Energy, Edge. A singer and performer of a world class stature is now ready to take a major step on the global music scene!
By reading her device – ”Energy is ageless” – you get the message. What better defines LaGaylia’s artistry, voice and expression? She radiates agelessness in a world more obsessed with youth than maturity. Her music – soul/jazz – is not limited by current trends. Her energized stage personality communicates ageless power.
Already a rising star back home in Florida, managed by Premier Artists, Eliot Weisman, who was responsible for such names as Frank Sinatra, Liza Minnelli and Sammy Davis Jr., LaGaylia became extremely well-known on the US market for her impeccable live performances. While in the US she collaborated with such names as Emilio Estefan, Ric Wake, Don Costa and her participation in the blockbuster hit The Specialist starring Sylvester Stallone, resulted in a top 12 position on Billboards Dance chart with the single ”Shower Me with Love”.
LaGaylia’s entry in Sweden in 2001 drew tremendous attention from audiences and media alike, receiving overwhelming response and praising reviews. In addition to working alongside Scandinavia’s top artists, she also collaborated with international stars Glenn Hughes, Albert Lee, Gino Vannelli, Paul Carrack, Wynne Evans and most recently in August 2012 with Quincy Jones in the concert ”A Quincy Jones Celebration” at Ystad Jazz Festival.
LaGaylia has been featured in countless Tv performances throughout Scandinavia including The Polar Music Prize, Happy Birthday Victoria (annual Tv broadcast celebration of Sweden’s Crown Princess) and the highly publicized Rhapsody in Rock. In China LaGaylia has become a household name with several concerts in major Tv shows broadcasted to an audience of over 1 Billion people through CCTV. Since many years LaGaylia is featured in Stockholm/Arlanda’s ”Hall of Fame” gallery.
LaGaylia released her first album – ”LaGaylia Uncovered” in 2007. The album was a flirt with the mainstream pop genre although with an obvious touch of soul. The album spawned a number one position in the Baltic Song Contest with the track “Over and Over Again”.
In 2012 her collaboration with the internationally renowned Swedish jazz pianist Jan Lundgren, resulted in a live album and an extremely successful tour throughout Sweden. The album, “Until it’s time”, held the number 1 position on the Swedish Jazz charts for over a month. The tour received lyrical reviews where a united press praised the edgy meeting between jazz and soul.
Internationally she was acclaimed by the top rated English magazine The Jazz Journal with quotes such as: ”LaGaylia is a real find and ought not to be confined to any one location in the world” – ”Minutes and then over an hour fled by as the audience was enchanted by her enormous vocal range, agile phrasing, fearsome soul-jazz power and dynamic physical performance”. LaGaylia’s personal and souly approach to jazz rewarded her with the ”Anita O’Day Award”.
2013 means a major undertaking in the music industry for LaGaylia. Her deepened insights reflecting her true love of soul music and what she calls ”the living soul” inspired her to turn her expression into lyrics and music resulting in a true soul experience exuding the very essence of her musical vein. Sweden has not been the birthplace of an international soul experience…….until now.
The first release, That Girl, presents an EP with six tracks planned for a fall release 2013, followed by an album in 2014.
