You might not know his name, but you probably remember his band’s music. Now one of the members from a band with one of the biggest records of all time, Hootie and the Blowfish, is singing his praises to the Lord.
After spending years writing songs and touring the world with Hootie, Jim Sonefeld went through a painful addiction for years before finding Christ. Last year he released his first album of Christian music appropriately titled Found.
As he prepares for his second CCM release due early next year, he releases his new original Christmas song, “I Won’t Be Blue At Christmas.”
To put it in Jim’s words:
Warning to listener: Christmas is a celebration! A chance for us to joyously share with the world the birth of our king! So if you see me this Christmas I won’t put up with any grumbling about long lines at Target, or whining about how Christmas causes you so much stress. Jesus has been born to you and to me, and if that isn’t enough to get you smiling this holiday then you need to listen to this song. Yes, the truth is our modern society has co-opted the birth of Christ and turned it into a gross, capitalist marketing venture, so you have to be careful not to get sucked up into the tornado of shopping madness and the expectations we hold up on this otherwise wonderful holiday. But, take a moment. Take a deep breath. Remember the true significance of Christ’s birth. The miracle of a child being born into this world, and the overwhelming way it changed us forever….. and tell me, what is stressful about that.
This song is a simple reminder of the greatest gift we could ever receive. The gift of a savior.
