LANSING, Michigan – The 2013 Pure Michigan Travel Guide, featuring travel opportunities from across the state, is now available on michigan.org. The Pure Michigan Travel Guide, formerly Michigan Travel Ideas, is free of charge and has long been one of the state’s top trip-planning resources.
The 108-page full color publication will also be offered in a free, universally accessible digital edition, which will allow users to access the guide from their desktop and laptop computers, as well as smartphones and tablets.
“This year’s travel guide provides a great representation of all we have to offer as a national tourism destination, including diverse trip ideas, informative stories and listings of many of the unique events found across the state,” said George Zimmermann, Vice President of Travel Michigan, part of the Michigan Economic Development Corporation. “The digital edition is a perfect on-the-go guide for planning your Pure Michigan vacation.”
One million copies of Michigan Travel Ideas 2013 will be distributed throughout the year, including 650,000 that have been sent out with the March/April issue of Midwest Living. The 2013 spring/summer guide will focus on warm weather travel ideas. For the first time, in 2013 a fall issue and winter issue will also be published, with 100,000 copies of each publication printed.
“Michigan is a terrific four season destination, and this year we will be able to highlight the distinct offerings visitors can find no matter what time of the year they plan their trip,” Zimmermann said.

The travel guide and magazine highlights interesting things to see and places to go in Michigan throughout the year. Featured again this year are Michigan Moments – a collection of memorable moments made across Michigan. The winning photo from the Pure Michigan Moment photo contest can be found on page two – next to the welcome letter from Governor Rick Snyder and Lt. Governor Brian Calley.
The guide showcases Michigan as a destination for all types of travelers. Kids @ Heart suggests 26 family-friendly ways to have fun, one for every letter of the alphabet. One-Stop Weekend highlights resorts offering opportunities to play, dine and relax all in one setting. Discover the perfect night out on the town in When the Girls Get Out, featuring shopping, dining and wining options. Right on Course is a must-read for golf lovers.
Other stories, including Small Town Spring, Foodie Tours, and Sunrise, Sunset highlight the wide variety of activities and events Michigan has to offer. For those seeking an adventure in the Upper Peninsula, Beyond the Bridge exposes the state’s natural beauty, along with hiking, biking and birding trips. The Adventure Diaries features more ideas for unique adventures, like lighthouse keeping and NASCAR driving.
The publication also includes a guide to Michigan state parks and campgrounds, an events calendar, and a listing of convention and visitor bureaus and regional tourism associations.
