Michigan’s tourism industry continues to perform at record levels, according to the most recent hotel data from Smith Travel Research. Through May, Michigan’s hotel occupancy rate was 51.9%, up 2.9% over the same period in 2012. The average daily rate (ADR) for the first five months of this year was $83.24, up 5% from the same months in 2012. And revenue per available hotel room (RevPAR) was $43.22, up 8% over January through May 2012. All three metrics are at their highest levels since we started acquiring this data in 2004.
I offer my congratulations to new leadership on the Michigan Travel Commission. With the retirement of four members of the Commission – Patricia Mooradian, Judy Zehnder Keller, Jerry Preston and Frank Ettawageshik – the Commission elected Roger Curtis of Michigan International Speedway as its new chair and Mike Busley of Grand Traverse Pie Company as the Commission’s vice chair. The next Michigan Travel Commission meeting will be held Friday, September 20 in Grand Rapids. For complete information on the Travel Commission and its meeting schedule, click here.
