Michigan Travel News – Pure Michigan has teamed up with Ford Racing, Quicken Loans and Michigan International Speedway, launching the MI Pace Car Sweepstakes consumer promotion yesterday in Detroit. We jointly are giving away the Ford Fusion Energi that will be the pace car for this season’s NASCAR Sprint Cup races at Michigan International Speedway. The car will pace both the Quicken Loans 400 on June 16 and the Pure Michigan 400 on August 18. Four monthly finalists also will win Pure Michigan vacation packages, provided by the Holiday Inn and Suites, Ann Arbor; the JW Marriott, Grand Rapids; Shanty Creek Resorts, Traverse City; and Grand Hotel, Mackinac Island, as well as a month’s mortgage payment from Quicken Loans and a VIP experience at MIS. We are excited about the promotion and equally enthusiastic about the collaboration with these three great Michigan organizations.

We will detail other Pure Michigan promotions for 2013 at the Pure Michigan Governor’s Conference on Tourism, now just two weeks away, April 14-16, at the Detroit Marriott at Renaissance Center. If you have been procrastinating about attending, now is the time for action!
A major topic of the conference will be the proposed dramatic expansion of our international marketing efforts. We currently spend about $800,000 of our $25 million Pure Michigan tourism promotion budget on international marketing — most of it in southern Ontario, Canada and a small portion in Europe in partnership with the other Great Lakes states. However, Governor Snyder has proposed increasing our budget by $4 million in 2014, to $29 million, with this increase earmarked for a major expansion of our international marketing efforts.
Global long-haul (between continents) tourism is booming worldwide, and Governor Snyder is proposing this funding increase so Michigan communities and tourism businesses can capture a greater share of this rapidly expanding market. The Governor will present his vision for the international potential of Pure Michigan during his keynote address at the conference. We will also offer specific opportunities currently available for Michigan businesses and communities to profit from the growth in international tourism. Pure Michigan went national for the first time with advertising and promotion in 2009. We believe international marketing is the next frontier, and the time is now.
To be equipped to capitalize on the next phase of the Michigan tourism economy, you need to be at the 2013 Pure Michigan Governor’s Conference on Tourism. Don’t miss out, register now.
I hope to see you in Detroit April 14.
Safe travels always,
